This is it, folks. We’ve checked the forecast, this is the last weekend of summer. We thought summer had gone, clouded over for good, but it’s back for one last hurrah. The final encore. Go enjoy it at these arts events this weekend.
Saturday August 13, 2—5pm
Southbank Centre (Festival Terrace), London
“Discover the next Avicii.” Done. Yes. We’re there.
Head down to the Southbank Centre’s Festival Terrace and dance away as GrooveSchool’s young DJs spin everything from EDM to old school RnB. The nonprofit supports young person’s engagement, creativity and invention. They offer DJ and Music Technology workshops year-round (trust us, after this event you won’t be able to resist signing up).
Brecon Jazz Weekend
Workshops, emerging artists, late-night jams, big-band showcases (and plenty of street food and entertainment to fill in the gaps)—do not miss this year’s Brecon Jazz Weekend! Exhibitions include Women in Jazz (Friday), Jazz Jam (Saturday), and the Futures (Sunday).
Mary Heilmann: Looking at Pictures
All Weekend (11am—6pm)

Before you visit this exhibition, listen to Heilmann’s record collection. If Jefferson Airplane, The Doors, and Leonard Cohen don’t tell you what to expect, nothing will. Step into Heilmann’s dynamic world of counter-culture canvases glazed ceramics, trading between sharp, architectural grids and unexpected and irregular pounds of colour.
