Zealous is jam-packed with loads of features and functions to help you maximise your submissions, not to mention an in-built community of 13,000+ creatives!

Stand out from the crowd. Here’s how to make the most of our open calls platform.

What's your hook?

Think of your title and description as the hook. They have to be informative yet simple. Who are you? What are you offering?

Effective title:  V&A Museum’s Annual Exhibition 2018

Effective description:  The V&A Museum are seeking talented artists to apply for their annual exhibition.

Keep the description short. This is the bit that will be captured by social media when people share your opportunity with their network.

Stand out from the crowd

Ensure your open call has a relevant cover image, as well as a handful of additional photos in the guidelines. This will help creatives understand the open call is suitable for their discipline or style.

The header image you select will also be captured by social media when people share your opportunity with their network, so it’s important this is relevant.

And don’t forget to add your logo as a profile picture so you’re easy to identify!

Target your audience

What type of creative are you looking for? You can filter talent-type by field (e.g. ‘art’ or ‘performance’), or be even more specific and filter by role (e.g. ‘painter’ or ‘ceramicist’).

Where is your open call based? Accept global submissions, or specify exactly where in the world you’d like creatives to be based by narrowing submissions by country or city. This is handy because anyone outside of your chosen location won’t be able to submit, saving you time on admin.

We send tailored recommendations to our creative network using this information, so ensure it’s correct!

Shout about the rewards

What’s in it for the creative?

Be specific with your prizes. Creatives can search for open calls based on the rewards (whether that’s a cash prize, an exhibition, a residency etc.), so it pays to be detailed.

If you have multiple prizes, break them down into individual parts! The more information you provide, the more incentive there is for a creative to submit to your open call.

How do creatives apply?

The guidelines are where the magic happens. This is where you can tell artists exactly what you require from their submission.

How many images can they attach? Do you require a background description of their work? When’s the exhibition? When do they need to be available to carry out the work?

You can add external links to the guidelines too, if you need to link out to terms and conditions, social media pages or additional information.

Manage submissions with a shortlist

Expecting a lot of submissions? You can opt to shortlist submissions before making a final selection or handing over to judges. This will help you narrow down the submissions into a manageable chunk of quality applicants.

Define schedules and deadlines

A timeline of your open call will appear on your opportunity page so creatives know exactly when everything is happening. Compulsory dates include: submissions open, submissions closed, and the day you will announce the final selection. If you add shortlist rounds and judging, these dates will also appear.

You can add customised dates too, which is handy for including exhibition dates or specifying a time frame when artists need to be available to do the work.

The finishing touches

Do creatives have to meet a specific criteria to enter? You can add customisable questions to the end of your submission process, ensuring your applicants have matched the criteria or included all of the information you require.

Does your call have a submission fee? Zealous can take submission fees directly on-platform (for a small commission fee of 10%). We’ll add the submission fee to the main opportunity page, providing transparency for your applicants from the very beginning of the process.
